Rare Panda Sea Bunny Spotted Off Hainan Coast
22 Oct
Summary
- A large 10cm panda sea bunny was sighted.
- Rare reticulated nudibranch and ribbon eel were also observed.
- This marks a second sighting of multiple uncommon marine organisms.

During routine underwater ecological monitoring on Monday, divers encountered a striking 10-centimeter Jorunna funebris sea slug, often called a panda sea bunny, off the coast of Wuzhizhou Island in Sanya, Hainan province. This specimen was considered large for its species, making its appearance uncommon in the local coral reef waters.
The same dive also documented the presence of a reticulated nudibranch and a slender ribbon eel, both species rarely observed in this marine ranch area. This significant finding represents the second time within a short period that multiple uncommon marine organisms have been recorded, following a previous observation of a leaf sheep sea slug.
