Bobcats Spotted Chasing Squirrel on Boise Greenbelt
23 Oct, 2025
Summary
- Adult and two younger bobcats spotted on Boise Greenbelt
- Bobcats are hard to see but thrive in Greenbelt habitat
- Expert advises to be quiet and use binoculars to spot bobcats

Earlier this week, on October 22nd, 2025, an unexpected sighting occurred on the Boise Greenbelt. Idaho Statesman photojournalist Sarah A. Miller captured images of an adult bobcat and two younger bobcats on a trail near the Idaho Shakespeare Festival Amphitheater and Reserve.
The adult bobcat was spotted climbing a tree to chase a squirrel, while the two younger bobcats watched from the ground. Bobcats are known to be elusive and hard to spot, but the Greenbelt's offering of water and forest cover makes it an ideal habitat for these small wildcats.
According to Vicky Runnoe, the conservation education supervisor at the MK Nature Center, bobcats wander up and down the Greenbelt's river corridor in search of their next meal, feasting on squirrels, small rodents, and rabbits. Runnoe advises that the best time to spot bobcats is early in the morning or late in the evening, when they are most active. She also cautions that visitors should be quiet and use binoculars or telephoto lenses to observe the animals from a distance, as bobcats are shy creatures that can be easily startled.
