Rajasthan Revives Dams for Tourism

A comprehensive study is currently being conducted to facilitate the conservation and development of three key dams located near Jaipur: Kanota, Chandlai, and Nevta. These dams, originally built for irrigation and water storage, have faced challenges from pollution and neglect. The study, expected to conclude within a month, will detail pollution causes and propose preventive measures, alongside a long-term development plan.

The initiative aims to transform these water bodies into vibrant eco-tourism hubs. Proposed enhancements include improving water quality, mapping pollution sources using GIS, and conserving biodiversity. The development plan will also explore opportunities for local livelihood generation and eco-tourism, incorporating modern water treatment technologies.

Plans for the dams encompass a range of tourism activities, such as boating facilities, development of green areas, and promotion of day and night tourism. Kanota Dam, Chandlai Dam, and Nevta Dam each offer unique potential for nature walks, bird watching, and recreational activities, positioning them as attractive weekend getaways for both tourists and residents. The government is committed to balancing tourism growth with the preservation of natural resources, aligning with Rajasthan's broader environmental conservation goals.
