15 May
Summary
- 52,851 sq metres of land allocated for riverfront development.
- Land transfer supports sewage treatment and green belt initiatives.
- Project aims to enhance flood capacity and ecological balance.

The Maharashtra government has significantly advanced Pune's river rejuvenation project by allocating 52,851 sq metres of land. This land, situated near Bund Garden and the Fitzgerald Bridge, is now transferred to the Pune Municipal Corporation free of cost. This crucial step facilitates the development of one of the seven stretches of the Mula-Mutha River's beautification and rejuvenation.
The allocated land includes riverbed areas and plots from the Botanical Garden and the Women, Child, and Correctional Home at Mundhwa. These transfers are vital for constructing a sewage treatment plant and developing green belts and jogging tracks along the riverbanks. The project's core objectives include enhancing the river's flood-carrying capacity and treating sewage before discharge.
Furthermore, a proposal to extend the Mula-Mutha Riverfront Project up to Manjari Budruk has been passed by PMC representatives. This expansion is deemed necessary due to increasing urbanization, pollution, water hyacinths, and flood risks in the Mundhwa to Manjari Budruk stretch, signaling a comprehensive approach to river health.
