Pune's Air Clears for Cycling Grand Tour
20 Jan
Summary
- Pune's AQI dropped to 94, a significant improvement from above 150.
- Traffic restrictions and morning fogger deployment aided air quality.
- Favorable weather with clearer skies and increased wind also helped.

On Monday, Pune's air quality index (AQI) saw a significant improvement, dropping to 94 during the international cycling event. This marks a substantial recovery from AQI levels that had consistently been above 150 since November 2025.
Traffic restrictions were implemented across key city roads for the prologue race of the Pune Grand Challenge Tour 2026. Additionally, the Pune Municipal Corporation's environment department shifted fogger vehicle deployment to early mornings on high-pollution roads, contributing to the improved air quality.
Favorable weather conditions, including clearer skies and increased wind flow over the past few days, also played a crucial role in dispersing dust particles and lowering pollution levels across various monitoring stations in the city.
