Protected Parakeets Rescued from Illegal Trade

In Yerawada, Pune, forest officials successfully rescued six live parrots belonging to protected species following coordinated raids on Saturday. The rescued birds included five Alexandrine Parakeets and one Rose-ringed Parakeet, both classified under Schedule II of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. Their possession and trade without a permit are illegal and punishable offenses.
During the operation, which targeted Shantinagar, Laxminagar, and Tingrenagar, three individuals were detained. Among them was a minor, accused of illegally possessing and trafficking these protected species. A forest offense has been formally registered against the accused under the relevant provisions of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
The forest department emphasizes the serious threat illegal wildlife trade poses to biodiversity. Investigations are continuing to uncover the full extent of the trafficking network.
