Pregnant Bison Electrocuted by Poachers' Deadly Trap in Chhattisgarh

On October 25th, 2025, a tragic incident occurred in the Arjuni forest range of Chhattisgarh's Balodabazar-Bhatapara district. A pregnant bison was found dead, its mutilated carcass discovered by forest officials. According to the investigation, the bison had been electrocuted after coming into contact with a live wire trap allegedly set by poachers.

The poachers had not only killed the animal but also brutally dismembered its body. They had severed the bison's head and legs, and even removed a fully developed fetus from its womb. This grisly act has sparked outrage among wildlife activists, who have blamed the forest department's negligence for the incident.

Prior to the tragedy, a local wildlife activist, Nitin Singhvi, had warned the authorities about the increased risk of poaching during the festive season. He had even recommended deploying a sniffer dog to the nearby Barnawapara Wildlife Sanctuary to deter potential poachers. However, the forest department failed to take the necessary preventive measures.

Now, the authorities are working to apprehend the suspects involved in this heinous crime. They have vowed to prioritize wildlife protection and strengthen anti-poaching operations in the region to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
