Prayagraj Police Impose Strict Traffic Curbs for Maghi Purnima

Prayagraj police have implemented stringent traffic restrictions ahead of the Maghi Purnima bathing festival on February 1, 2026. These measures, effective from midnight Saturday until midnight on February 2, aim to manage the anticipated massive influx of devotees for the fifth bathing festival of the annual Magh Mela. Entry for heavy and light vehicles into Prayagraj district will be completely prohibited during this period, excluding administrative and emergency vehicles.

To control the flow of vehicles from neighboring districts, authorities have set up 12 designated no-entry points and established diversion routes. The Maghi Purnima festival is the penultimate bathing occasion of the 44-day Magh Mela, which commenced on January 3 and is set to conclude on February 8. Residents and devotees are urged to cooperate by minimizing private vehicle use and adhering to designated parking and travel routes.

Preparations at the Mela site are intensifying, with officials focusing on traffic management to prevent congestion, especially on return routes. Separate entry and exit routes for pilgrims are being ensured. The ghats are being readied, and sanitation, health, and sanitation staff will be on duty around the clock to manage the expected 5 to 7 million participants. Sector magistrates and ADM-level officers will oversee arrangements to ensure a safe and smooth festival.
