In response to concerns about outdated data influencing pollution control in Delhi-NCR, the Prime Minister's Office has mandated the Commission for Air Quality Management and the Central Pollution Control Board to accelerate new emission inventory and source-apportionment studies. These crucial studies help identify pollution sources and their contributions, ensuring more effective mitigation strategies.
The PMO's directive, issued in a high-level task force meeting on October 23, also emphasized a time-bound action plan for urban and industrial road redevelopment. This includes end-to-end paving and greening of road shoulders to address significant particulate pollution from dust.
This initiative by the PMO aims to rectify reliance on older studies, as was highlighted before the National Green Tribunal. The task force meeting included secretaries from multiple departments and chief secretaries from affected states, underscoring the multi-faceted approach needed to tackle air pollution across the National Capital Region.
