In a significant anti-encroachment operation on Friday, May 23, 2026, Patna authorities reclaimed approximately one bigha of land along the Ganga riverfront. The drive, initiated by Patna District Magistrate Thiyagarajan S M, targeted and demolished unauthorized showrooms and service centers belonging to two prominent car brands. These structures, located between Ganga Path gates 61 and 63, were found to be in violation of building regulations and environmental directives.
The operation, which commenced at 6 am, involved multiple magistrates, municipal officials, and over 100 police personnel. Heavy machinery, including earthmovers, was utilized to dismantle the illegal constructions and clear the debris. This action is a part of a broader, ongoing citywide campaign to remove encroachments and secure public land for development projects, especially along the vital riverfront.
Officials confirmed that the campaign has been ongoing for 18 consecutive days in May. Previous actions in Buddha Colony have seen the removal of houses and cattle sheds for the proposed Ekta Mall. In addition to demolitions, authorities have been clearing temporary encroachments like kiosks and banners from various city areas and imposing fines, collecting Rs 1,45,400 on Friday alone. Follow-up teams are monitoring cleared sites, with mandatory FIRs planned for repeat offenders to ensure sustained compliance.
