With Durga Puja nearing, Patna is enhancing its facilities for idol immersion by constructing four temporary ponds. These new sites, along with renovated natural ponds and riverfront areas, are designed to ensure safe and organized ceremonies.
The Patna Municipal Corporation is overseeing the development of temporary immersion ponds at Kangan Ghat, Kila Ghat, and Damrahi Ghat, as well as Minar Ghat. These efforts are in response to fluctuating water levels in the Ganga River. Officials are prioritizing safety with adequate barricading, lighting, and controlled immersion spaces.
Existing natural ponds are also being refurbished, such as the one at Patipul Ghat, where water will be replaced and barricading installed. Additionally, an immersion area is being created along the riverfront at Law College Ghat. The construction of each temporary pond is estimated to cost between Rs 3-5 lakh and is expected to be completed well before the festival.
