24 Mar
Summary
- Pakistan identified as the world's smoggiest country in 2025.
- PM2.5 concentrations in Pakistan were up to 13 times WHO limits.
- Thirteen countries met WHO's 2025 air quality standards.

In 2025, Pakistan was identified as the country with the most severe air pollution globally. The nation experienced hazardous concentrations of PM2.5 particles, reaching levels up to 13 times higher than the World Health Organization's recommended standard. This finding comes from the annual report by Swiss air quality monitoring firm IQAir.
However, the report also highlighted a positive trend in global air quality. A total of thirteen countries and territories managed to keep their average PM2.5 levels within the WHO's safe guideline of less than 5 micrograms per cubic meter in 2025. This marks an improvement from the previous year, 2024, when only seven such countries were recorded.
