Paignton's £20M Beachfront Transformation Unveiled: A Coastal Revamp for the Ages

Paignton, a beloved seaside town in Devon, is about to undergo a remarkable £20 million transformation of its beachfront. As of October 2025, the local authorities have unveiled plans to redefine the town's stunning coastline through a comprehensive redevelopment project.

The ambitious initiative, led by construction firm Knights Brown, aims to protect homes, businesses, and community areas from coastal flooding while also enhancing the overall visitor experience. The project is set to unfold in three key phases, with the first focusing on Paignton Green North and scheduled for completion before the English Riviera Airshow in May 2026.

The subsequent phases will tackle Paignton Green South and a separate scheme at Preston seafront, all of which are expected to be finished by the end of 2026. Throughout the construction, residents will still have access to both beaches, and the surrounding green spaces will remain fully accessible.

Cllr Chris Lewis, the deputy leader and cabinet member for place development and economic growth at Torbay Council, has described the project as a "game-changing" opportunity to unlock Paignton's future as a thriving, vibrant coastal town. The £20 million investment, funded by the UK government and the Environment Agency, will deliver a dramatically enhanced seafront experience for all, with modern design and improved public spaces that add lasting value to the area.
