Village sewage leak: 2-year frustration boils over
25 Feb
Summary
- A sewage leak in Oxhill has persisted for two years, causing resident frustration.
- Severn Trent Water's repair work has led to road closures and business disruptions.
- Residents report constant noise, diesel fumes, and environmental concerns.

In the South Warwickshire village of Oxhill, residents have endured a "deeply unpleasant" sewage leak for two years. The persistent problem, caused by a drain unable to cope with waste water from neighboring villages, has sparked significant frustration. Landowner Alastair Welford expressed his disappointment, stating that assurances of repair have been ongoing for two years.
Severn Trent Water acknowledged the difficulties, with a spokesperson promising work towards a permanent solution. However, their repair efforts have also created further issues. Road closures on Kineton Road, the main village route, have diverted traffic, leading to constant noise and diesel fumes for those on the diversion route. Local businesses, like Thomas Fox Landscaping, face increased travel times and costs due to the detours.
Residents' concerns extend to environmental impact, with sewage affecting nearby fields. Severn Trent Water stated they would ensure all affected areas, including roads and verges damaged by their work, are properly reinstated. The Environment Agency is investigating the ongoing leak, while Warwickshire County Council will inspect the road once Severn Trent's work is complete.
