27 Sep
Summary
- Firefighters rescued an owl stuck in a swimming pool.
- The owl was found wet after a nighttime hunting attempt.
- The bird was taken to a raptor center for treatment.
Firefighters in Ventura recently responded to an unusual call: an owl trapped in a backyard swimming pool during its nocturnal hunt. The bird, found wet and disoriented, was carefully guided to the edge of the pool using a leaf skimmer by the rescue crew.
After being helped back onto the grass, the owl appeared to have no significant injuries. Firefighters contacted the Ojai Raptor Centre to ensure the owl received necessary treatment and follow-up care. This incident serves as a reminder of how swimming pools can pose risks to wildlife, especially for owls hunting prey near water sources at night.
The Ojai Raptor Centre advises the public to contact wildlife rehabilitation experts when encountering distressed animals, rather than attempting rescues independently. Officials have not yet provided an update on the owl's condition.
