Southern Ontario Drenched: Flood Warnings Issued
4 Apr
Summary
- Rainfall warnings issued for Waterloo region, Guelph, and Wellington County.
- Grand River Conservation Authority maintains flood watch for watershed.
- Potential for water pooling, flooding in low-lying areas, and washouts.

A yellow-level rainfall warning is currently in effect for Waterloo region, Guelph, and Wellington County, with Environment and Climate Change Canada forecasting between 20 to 40 mm of rain from Saturday into Sunday. The heaviest precipitation is anticipated Saturday evening and overnight, possibly accompanied by thunderstorms, which could result in locally higher rainfall amounts.
The public is advised to be aware of potential water pooling on roads and flooding in low-lying areas. Concerns also include washouts near rivers, creeks, and culverts, with sudden reductions in visibility possible due to heavy rain.
Across much of southern Ontario, rainfall warnings have been issued, impacting cities such as Toronto, London, Muskoka, Huron County, and Collingwood. Meanwhile, the Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) has maintained a flood watch for its entire watershed, which includes numerous communities. Although flood warnings were terminated on Friday, water levels and flows within the watershed remain above normal from earlier rainfall this week. The GRCA cautions that localized flooding may still be occurring. Significant additional rainfall could lead to substantial runoff, causing water levels to rise again. The watershed encompasses communities including Grand Valley, Drayton, Waterloo region, Guelph, Wellington County, Brant County, Brantford, Six Nations, and Haldimand County.
