Zero-Waste Festivals: On-Site Incineration Debuts

A recent pilot project at the Allcargo Mangaluru Beach Festival pioneered on-site, sustainable waste treatment, aiming for zero-waste public events. Neo San's compact, electric incinerator, Neo-X, was deployed directly at the Tannirbhavi venue.
During the festival, approximately 70 kg of non-recyclable waste, such as sanitary materials and contaminated plastics, underwent safe on-site treatment. This process prevented an estimated 150 kg of carbon dioxide emissions, comparable to burning 80 kg of coal. Local startup Prithvi Mitr managed waste segregation and collection, facilitating the collaboration.
The Neo-X system operates at high temperatures up to 1,200°C, ensuring complete combustion in under a minute. It consumes minimal electricity, costing less than Rs 1 per kg of waste treated. Emissions were tested and found to be well below regulatory limits, making the system safe for public spaces like beaches.
