In Dhenkanal district, Odisha, authorities have detained three individuals, including a farmhouse owner, in connection with the electrocution death of a wild elephant. The incident is believed to have occurred between three and four days prior to June 1, 2026, on a property in Rajmohanpur.
Forest officials exhumed the carcass of the male makhna elephant, estimated to be 30 to 40 years old, from the farmhouse grounds using an earthmover. Preliminary investigations suggest the elephant died from electrocution, and its body was intentionally buried to hide the crime.
