17 Jun
Summary
- Two New York state park beaches are closed due to harmful algal blooms.
- Regular testing ensures public safety against waterborne diseases.
- Beaches are classified as open with advisory or closed until satisfactory samples.

Swimming beaches at two New York state parks have been closed due to the presence of harmful algal blooms. Delta Lake State Park in Oneida County and Harriman State Park's Lake Tiorati in Rockland County are currently inaccessible to swimmers. These closures are implemented to protect public health and safety.
The New York State Department of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation regularly tests its 67 state-owned swimming beaches. Testing for bacteria, such as E. coli in freshwater and enterococcus in ocean samples, occurs at least weekly. Test results are typically available within 24 hours and posted publicly.
Beaches are subject to advisories or full closures based on monitoring results. Category 1 beaches may remain open with an advisory, pending further testing, while Category 2 beaches are automatically closed until water quality improves. As of June 12, approximately one-third of state beaches were open for the summer season, with most others expected to open later in June.
