NGT Orders Action: Wildlife Squad Raids Nuh Lake for Bird Poaching
13 Jan
Summary
- NGT directed intensified surveillance and removal of illegal nets at Akera-Kotla Lake.
- A petition alleged rampant bird poaching and encroachment at the unrecognised wetland.
- FIR registered last month for hunting migratory birds prompts increased vigilance.

Surveillance at Akera-Kotla Lake in Nuh has been significantly increased following directives from the National Green Tribunal (NGT). A wildlife department team conducted a survey and successfully removed illegal nets intended for trapping migratory birds. This action is part of a report being submitted to the tribunal.
The NGT's intervention came after an activist filed a petition detailing rampant bird poaching, encroachment, and a lack of legal protection for the Kotla-Akera wetland. Despite being a vital habitat for migratory species, the site remains unrecognised. Notices have been issued to both the Centre and the Haryana government concerning the plea.
