North Yorkshire Village Launches Renewable Energy Club to Cut Costs and Carbon

In August 2025, residents of a North Yorkshire village have established the Settle Energy Local Club (SELC), the first renewable energy club of its kind in the region. The club's goal is to help reduce the costs and carbon footprint of the local community.
The SELC takes excess energy produced from solar panels on a nearby furniture business and passes it on to members at a discounted price. Currently, the club has six consumers and one generator, but it is actively looking to expand its reach within the Settle, Giggleswick, and Langcliffe areas.
SELC secretary Paul Kelly expressed his hope that the club could "play our part in de-carbonising Settle and its locality." By harnessing locally-generated renewable energy, the club aims to make sustainable power more accessible and affordable for residents in the region.
