Noida Residents Demand Action as Rampant Digging Causes Severe Dust Pollution
14 Oct
Summary
- NGT issues notice to Noida authority over resident's plea on dust pollution
- Resident alleges authority not complying with environmental norms during construction
- Authorities deny allegations, claim they follow all rules for digging work

On October 15, 2025, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) issued a notice to the Noida authority and other government bodies in response to a plea filed by a Noida resident. The resident, Amit Gupta, alleged that due to the negligence of local authorities, rampant digging is causing severe dust pollution, thereby affecting the lives of citizens.
The NGT has directed the Noida authority and other agencies involved to submit their replies before the next hearing scheduled for December 24, 2025. In his petition, Gupta claimed the Noida authority is not complying with environmental norms while carrying out various construction activities across the city.
However, the Noida authority officials have denied the allegations, stating they are "baseless" and that they follow all the rules for digging work. The authority's general manager, AK Arora, said they will file a reply in the NGT about the case.
Residents have alleged that private contractors, after laying utilities, routinely abandon the dug-up patches without proper restoration, especially along roads in several sectors. They claim the authority has granted at least eight digging permissions in the past eight months, but the contractors have not repaired the sites.
