Rain Washes Away Noida Pollution
31 Oct
Summary
- Overnight rain brought relief from air pollution in Noida and Greater Noida.
- Noida and Greater Noida's AQI dropped to satisfactory levels from poor.
- Cyclone Arnab's interaction with a western disturbance caused the weather change.
Overnight rainfall on Friday brought a welcome respite from air pollution in Gautam Budh Nagar, significantly improving air quality in Noida and Greater Noida. The Air Quality Index (AQI) in both cities dropped from 'poor' to the 'satisfactory' category.
This sharp improvement in air quality is attributed to the rain washing out suspended pollutants. Previously, Noida and Greater Noida had experienced days with 'poor' and 'moderate' AQI readings.
Weather experts explained that the change was due to the interaction between Cyclone Arnab and a western disturbance. This weather system not only cleared the air but also brought down temperatures, with further reductions predicted over the weekend.
While the rain provided much-needed relief from pollution, it also led to waterlogging in some areas, causing inconvenience to commuters and pedestrians. Residents reported difficulties navigating muddy roads after even short spells of rain.
The forecast for Noida and Greater Noida indicated partly cloudy skies on Saturday with temperatures between 17°C and 30°C, transitioning to clear skies and a high of 31°C from Sunday onwards.
