Hawaii Recovers as New Pacific Storms Brew

Hawaii continues recovery efforts following Hurricane Lala's significant impact, while two new tropical systems are developing in the Pacific Ocean. The first disturbance is forecast to form several hundred miles south-southwest of Mexico and may become a tropical depression over the weekend. Forecasters give it an 80 percent chance of development within seven days.

A second tropical wave, located east-southeast of the Hawaiian Islands, shows signs of organization. Conditions appear favorable for a tropical depression to form within a few days as it moves westward into the Central Pacific. This system has a 50 percent chance of formation in the next 48 hours and an 80 percent chance over seven days.

Hurricane Lala, which brought destructive flooding and widespread power outages to Hawaii, is now moving further west across the Pacific. Recovery operations are ongoing in communities heavily affected by flooding and landslides, with significant damage reported to homes and infrastructure. The National Hurricane Center is monitoring the new systems as the eastern and central Pacific hurricane basins remain highly active.
