9 Mar
Summary
- Over 1,500 sanitation workers deployed for the city-wide cleanliness campaign.
- Nearly 43 tonnes of dry leaves collected daily and processed into organic manure.
- Mobile anti-smog guns and water tankers deployed to combat dust and pollution.

New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has launched an extensive sanitation campaign, mobilizing 1,574 workers and assigning nodal officers to oversee 14 sanitation circles. The initiative targets garbage, construction debris, parks, markets, and public spaces. Daily operations include collecting approximately 43 tonnes of dry leaves, which are then composted into organic manure.
To combat road dust, four mechanized sweepers cover thousands of kilometers monthly, their movements tracked by GPS. Additionally, 29 pushback manual sweepers and 20 gobbler machines are bolstering sanitation efforts. The civic body manages around 310 tonnes of municipal waste daily, with dry waste sent to energy plants and wet waste to composting units.
Dust suppression is a key focus, with eight mobile anti-smog guns and one static unit deployed. Water tankers provide regular sprinkling on roads and vegetation. Construction and demolition waste, averaging 39.3 metric tonnes daily, is also collected for recycling. Advanced equipment like jetting machines and mist spray systems are utilized to maintain cleanliness and reduce dust.
