The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has introduced five new CNG-operated mechanical road sweepers, a first for the capital, as part of its commitment to cleaner transportation. This initiative aligns with the NDMC's budget announcement to transition its vehicle fleet to CNG. These new machines will bolster the daily road sweeping capacity, covering an estimated 415 km, particularly within important VVIP zones.
The procurement of these five sweepers, costing around Rs 3.71 crore, addresses the critical need to control dust pollution. By utilizing CNG, NDMC complies with National Green Tribunal directives against diesel vehicle registrations in Delhi, becoming the inaugural civic body in the city to deploy mechanical road sweepers on a CNG chassis. Officials highlight the sweepers' efficiency in cleaning, accident risk reduction, and eco-friendly operation.
