The Cornish Seal Sanctuary has announced an exciting new arrival as Parsnip, a two-year-old female beaver, has joined their resident male, Turnip. Parsnip was transferred from Forestry England's Cropton Forest enclosure, with a brief stay at Flamingo Land prior to her relocation. Her move was carefully coordinated with the Beaver Trust to ensure she would be a compatible mate for Turnip.
The sanctuary shared that Parsnip's arrival was a special Christmas surprise for Turnip, marking a significant moment for the pair. This planned introduction is designed to support the animals' social needs and potentially contribute to future breeding efforts within a safe and managed environment.
Dr. Roisin Campbell-Palmer from the Beaver Trust emphasized the importance of successfully pairing young beavers. She noted that such introductions are a vital step in ensuring the long-term health and well-being of these animals, contributing to conservation efforts and the understanding of beaver social dynamics.
