The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) is implementing a targeted strategy to combat air pollution by focusing on specific hotspots within the National Capital Region (NCR). States including Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh have been instructed to identify these pollution hotspots and assess their primary emission sources.
Detailed action plans are to be developed for each hotspot, outlining specific measures for pollution control. Each plan must designate a nodal officer responsible for overseeing the implementation of these abatement strategies. This directive aims for accelerated reduction of air pollution at the local level.
Delhi has also been requested to update its inventory of air pollution hotspots. Previously, Delhi identified major pollution sources and thousands of minor ones, such as road dust and waste burning, addressing many of them. The CAQM's current approach emphasizes localized solutions to improve air quality across the region.
