Summary

- Roundtable conference to discuss urgent climate concerns and action agenda.
- The 3-30-300 urban greening formula is proposed for Navi Mumbai.

Environmental groups and citizen platforms across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) are uniting to launch the 'Climate Action Now' (CAN) initiative. This launch coincides with the eve of World Environment Day, highlighting concerns over rising heatwaves and dwindling green spaces.
A half-day roundtable conference, scheduled for June 4, will convene environmentalists, biodiversity experts, and community organizations. The meeting aims to deliberate on pressing climate issues and formulate a united climate action plan for the MMR.
The initiative is spearheaded by the NatConnect Foundation, with support from various other environmental forums. Organizers emphasize that climate action must evolve into a sustained people's movement beyond symbolic gestures. They highlight the rapid urbanization in Navi Mumbai, which has severely impacted natural habitats and intensified urban heat stress.
Key proposals include the adoption of the 3-30-300 urban greening formula. This global standard aims to ensure sufficient tree cover and proximity to green spaces for all residents, promoting long-term climate resilience.
