- Focus areas include water management and river rejuvenation.
- Agreement aims to improve civic services and governance.
Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) is poised to enter into a sister-city agreement with Singapore, fostering cooperation in urban development, governance, and civic services. Mayor Himgauri Aher announced the initiative following her attendance at the UN Forum of Mayors conference. This proposed memorandum of understanding will enable the exchange of operational procedures, technical knowledge, and successful strategies between the two cities.
The partnership is designed to assist NMC in evaluating international urban management approaches for suitability in Nashik. Water management, a critical concern globally, has been identified as a primary focus, with Nashik aiming to leverage international experience in water conservation and resource management.
Rejuvenating and cleaning the Godavari River is a top priority for the civic body. Information gathered on river restoration and water recycling technologies from various countries during the Geneva conference will be studied for potential adoption in Nashik. The NMC also plans to tackle river pollution, upgrade wastewater treatment, and promote water reuse as the city prepares to host the 2027 Simhastha Kumbh Mela.
