Authorities in Nashik are enhancing the water infrastructure for the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela in 2027. The Kumbh Mela Authority has instructed officials to broaden the scope of the planned water grid project in Trimbakeshwar. This directive includes integrating more local water ponds, or kunds, into the water supply system for pilgrim use.
The water grid is designed to lift treated water from a weir near Gautami Godavari and cycle it through Trimbakeshwar town before reaching the Ahilya dam. This ensures a continuous flow of fresh water in the Godavari river throughout the year.
In addition to the existing plan of constructing weirs and ghats along the Godavari, the project will now explore incorporating over 100 historical kunds and public ponds. This measure aims to provide safe and clean bathing facilities for the millions of devotees expected during the three key bathing days in July and August 2027.
