6 Jun
Summary
- Nandyal town aims for cleanliness through public participation.
- Focus on bulk waste generators like hospitals and hotels.
- Collector advocates for a complete ban on single-use plastics.

District Collector Rajakumari Ganiya has called for active public involvement in making Nandyal town clean and beautiful. She inspected "Operation Clean Sweep" in Saibaba Nagar, an initiative aimed at identifying and removing garbage piles to improve sanitation management across Nandyal Municipality. The Collector stressed that achieving cleanliness is a shared responsibility, not solely a government task.
Hospitals, hotels, commercial complexes, and residential communities identified as bulk waste generators are being urged to segregate their wet and dry waste. Scientific methods for waste management, such as converting wet waste into organic manure through local composting, are being promoted. For waste that cannot be composted locally, measures are in place to ensure it's handed over to the municipality's bio-digester units.
Furthermore, the Collector has called for a complete ban on single-use plastics due to their severe environmental impact. Residents are encouraged to use biodegradable alternatives like corn-based eco-friendly covers and other substitutes. In parallel, in Kurnool, Collector Dr. A Siri participated in a similar "Swachh Andhra - Swarnandhra" initiative, inspecting waste management centers and promoting waste segregation among locals.
