Summary
- Fines for public garbage dumping increase by 900% to Rs1,000.
- Rs50,000 fine for obstructing conservancy lanes and sewer lines.
- NMC staff will face penalties for persistent unhygienic civic premises.
Nagpur Municipal Corporation's general body has greenlit a substantial revision of civic penalties, introducing steeper fines for various public nuisances. A notable 900% increase now mandates a Rs1,000 fine for dumping garbage in public areas. Previously, this fine stood at Rs100. The revised penalties extend to 52 civic nuisances, an expansion from the previous 30.
Furthermore, individuals or entities found encroaching on conservancy lanes or blocking access for sewer line installations will face a substantial Rs50,000 fine. This measure aims to ensure unobstructed municipal work. The new regulations also impose fines for failure to segregate waste, ranging from Rs500 for citizens to Rs20,000 for bulk waste generators. Hazardous biomedical waste dumping incurs a Rs10,000 penalty, with potential sealing for repeat offenders.
Stricter actions are also in place for issues like spitting, open urination, and construction debris storage, with fines ranging from Rs500 to Rs2,000 per day. Water wastage, unauthorized connections, and water theft carry penalties up to Rs10,000, with criminal action possible for severe violations like water pollution or theft. Significantly, NMC staff will now be held accountable, facing penalties if garbage-vulnerable points persist or civic premises remain unhygienic, supported by the addition of 60 Nuisance Detection Squad personnel.
