- The camp was developed for conservation and rehabilitation.
- National Tiger Conservation Authority approval is pending.

A Rs 2 crore elephant camp in Mysuru's BRT Tiger Reserve remains vacant, with no elephants currently housed there. The Budipadaga elephant camp, fully equipped with facilities for elephant care, mahouts, and tourists, has been unused for the past year.
The camp was established for the conservation and rehabilitation of captive, rescued, and injured elephants. It was also designed to support eco-tourism activities, but the lack of elephants has rendered these facilities idle.
Forest department officials stated they are awaiting permission from the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) to resume operations at the Budipadaga camp. This decision is currently with the NTCA.
Concerns were raised by wildlife experts and veterinarians regarding the camp's location due to a lack of drinking water and unsuitable environmental conditions for elephants' health. Despite these objections, the camp was reportedly built hastily to utilize allocated government funds, leading to its current unoccupied state.
