21 Apr
Summary
- An 18-hour water shutdown is scheduled for April 22 in Mumbai.
- Pipeline work in Sewri aims to improve water distribution and supply.
- Affected areas include large parts of south and central Mumbai.

Large sections of south and central Mumbai are set to endure an 18-hour water shutdown. This disruption will commence on April 22 at 10 am and conclude on April 23 at 4 am. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is undertaking critical pipeline work in Sewri.
This initiative involves the installation of two 1,500 mm butterfly valves on a tunnel pipeline connected to the Bhandarwada Hill reservoir. The BMC states this work is essential for streamlining water supply to various reservoirs across the city.
Water supply will be completely halted in parts of A, B, C, and F South wards. Several pockets within E ward are expected to have water supply at low pressure during this period. Key institutions and government offices in A ward will be without water on April 22. Areas like Dongri and Masjid Bunder in B ward will see staggered shutdowns. Major market and residential areas in C ward will face a shutdown on April 23.
Byculla, Nagpada, Agripada, and Kalachowki in E ward will likely receive low-pressure supply on April 23. However, Mazgaon and parts of the port area will experience a complete shutdown on April 22. Major hospitals, including JJ, Kasturba, and Nair, will receive water at low pressure. Sewri, Wadala East, and Abhyudaya Nagar in F South ward will be shut on April 23, with Lalbaug, Parel, and Dadar getting low pressure. Additional hospitals like KEM and Tata Memorial will also have reduced pressure. The BMC advises residents to store water in advance and use it judiciously. They also recommend boiling and filtering drinking water for a few days following the shutdown.
