BMC Monitors Coastal Road Project After Residents Report Vibrations
21 Feb
Summary
- Civic officials monitored buildings after residents reported tremors.
- Vibration levels were assessed during test piling and soil erosion.
- Corrective measures suggested to reduce noise and vibrations.

Following resident concerns about tremors experienced during test piling for the Mumbai Coastal Road (North) project, Borivli MLA Sanjay Upadhyay organized a meeting with BMC officials and affected residents. Subsequently, civic engineers and a VJTI professor conducted on-site monitoring of buildings in Charkop. The expert assessed vibration levels generated by soil erosion and test piling, recording minimal to negligible readings.
During the monitoring, the VJTI professor recommended specialized piling tools and support machinery to the project contractor, Larsen & Toubro, to mitigate excessive noise and vibrations. Assurances were given to residents that precautions would be taken to prevent future tremors or structural impacts. The meeting also addressed concerns regarding mangrove loss, clarifying that a portion would be temporarily trimmed and replanted.
