Mumbai's BKC goes green: Public transport day launched
8 Jun
Summary
- BKC launches weekly public transport day every Friday.
- 52% of commuters use private vehicles; initiative aims to shift this.
- 82% of commuters willing to switch to public transport if improved.

Employees in Mumbai's Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) are being encouraged to opt for public or shared transportation every Friday. This new initiative, a first of its kind for the business district, was launched on World Environment Day. The goal is to foster a collective shift towards more sustainable commuting habits.
Mobility studies reveal that a significant 52% of BKC's workforce currently uses personal vehicles, taxis, or auto-rickshaws, while only 25% utilize public transport. A substantial 82% of commuters expressed a willingness to transition to public transport if it offered greater reliability, comfort, and convenience.
The initiative coincides with the expansion of public transport infrastructure in BKC. With Metro Line 3 already enhancing accessibility, upcoming Metro Lines 2B and 4 are set to place almost the entire business district within a kilometer of a metro station, promising improved connectivity.
