MP Court Probes Mysterious Tiger Deaths
30 May
Summary
- Eight tigers have died at Kanha National Park in the past two months.
- The high court ordered a detailed report from the state government.
- A wildlife enthusiast raised concerns over potential Canine Distemper Virus.

In response to the alarming deaths of eight tigers at Kanha National Park within the past two months, the Madhya Pradesh high court has issued a directive. A divisional bench has mandated that the state government and forest department provide a comprehensive report detailing the preventive and curative measures implemented concerning these incidents. The court has set a two-week deadline for the submission of this report.
The high court's order was prompted by a petition filed by Subit Chakraborty, a Mumbai-based advocate and wildlife enthusiast. Chakraborty expressed significant concern over recent tiger deaths, which he links to potential Canine Distemper Virus infections. He specifically requested the court to order the disclosure of all relevant files.
These files are to include monitoring records, veterinary reports, and other protocol-related documentation for several deceased tigers, including tigress T-141 and her cubs, tigress T-122, tiger "Digdola," and tiger T-220. The petitioner also urged for an update on the implementation status of advisories issued by the National Tiger Conservation Authority regarding CDV for Kanha Tiger Reserve and its surrounding areas. This includes details on vaccination drives and disease surveillance.
