A significant amount of fly-tipped waste, described as a "river of rubbish," has been successfully cleared from Bwlch Mountain in Rhondda Cynon Taf by volunteers. The Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team undertook a demanding 12-hour operation over the weekend to remove more than a tonne of debris from the steep mountainside.
Due to the challenging terrain, rescue teams had to employ ropes and specialist equipment to haul the waste to the roadside. The illegally dumped material consisted of commercial and household items, including tyres, plasterboard, cement bags, and white goods. Evidence of burning was also discovered on the slopes.
Local authorities collaborated with the mountain rescue team, commending their efforts. They stated that treating the beauty spot as a dumping ground was completely unacceptable and pledged to hold those responsible accountable for their actions. The council emphasized that much of the waste could have been disposed of legally and at no extra cost through recycling centres or kerbside collections.
