In November 2025, a £145,000 project to upgrade Scarth Gardens in Morley, Leeds was approved and is set to begin by the end of the month. The improvements, part of the Morley Town Deal, will include the installation of new footpaths, bulb planting, and the creation of a sculpture trail. Additionally, a new access ramp, refurbishment of existing steps, and the addition of artistic fencing and more planting will "increase ambience and biodiversity" within the green space.
According to a local authority spokesperson, the project will make the area more attractive and safer, benefiting local businesses and attracting new investments. The enhancements are also expected to boost the mental and physical health and wellbeing of residents, as well as improve local air quality. Drawn up with the help of Groundwork Yorkshire, the project aims to attract more visitors to the town.
The Scarth Gardens upgrade is part of a broader program of improvements to parks and green spaces within the Morley Town Deal boundary, with the goal of creating a more positive outdoor experience for people of all ages while providing long-term ecological benefits.
