15 Aug
Summary
- 47 designated feeding points for community dogs proposed across Mohali.
- District recorded 9,710 dog-bite cases in the first four months of 2026.
- MC invites public suggestions on proposed feeding locations until August 21, 2026.

The Mohali municipal corporation has put forth a proposal for 47 designated feeding points for community dogs, spread across 14 different sectors and areas. This initiative is in direct response to a Supreme Court ruling from August 2025, which mandated municipal authorities to establish dedicated feeding spaces within every ward and prohibit street feeding. The primary goal is to mitigate aggressive dog pack congregations in residential zones and children's play areas, addressing rising concerns over dog-bite cases.
As of 2026, the district has seen a significant increase in dog-bite incidents, with 9,710 cases reported in the first four months. This follows annual tallies of 20,562 in 2025 and 19,252 in 2024. The proposed 47 locations are not yet final. The MC has opened a seven-day window, concluding on August 21, 2026, for residents, RWAs, and other stakeholders to submit suggestions or objections. These can include concerns about safety, accessibility, potential conflict, or suggestions for alternative sites, ensuring adequate distance from schools and play areas, and minimal obstruction to traffic.
The MC has provided GPS coordinates and map links for the proposed sites to assist the public in reviewing them. The selection criteria for these sites included factors like public safety, accessibility, and the existing movement patterns of community dogs, aiming to minimize public inconvenience and conflict. Residents are encouraged to provide feedback on these aspects as part of the objection process.
