Footage captured by a boat tour company shows the large marine creature, estimated to be between 10 and 13 feet long, swimming around their vessel. The encounter occurred about two nautical miles off the coast, between São Martinho do Porto and Nazaré.
While the exact species has not been officially confirmed, the shark's ventral coloring led the boat tour operator to suggest it might be a great white. Such sightings close to mainland Portugal are considered uncommon for these powerful ocean predators.
