Manesar Societies Face Sewage Disposal Probe

The Municipal Corporation of Manesar (MCM) has initiated a comprehensive review of sewage disposal standards across 74 residential societies operating under its purview. Officials announced on Tuesday that these societies will be formally directed to provide detailed status reports concerning their adopted treatment norms and the operational efficiency of their respective Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs).

This directive comes in response to escalating concerns over the clandestine dumping of untreated wastewater. A prior report highlighted the disposal of contaminated water, laden with solids and toxins, on barren land in several sectors. The MCM is seeking specific data on STP compliance, including pH and biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) standards, alongside plans for treated effluent reuse.

Societies are expected to submit these crucial details within 48 hours of receiving the notice. Failure to comply promptly will result in scrutiny from civic bodies, potentially leading to notices for developers or Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs). The Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) mandates that group housing societies with over 20 units or generating more than 20,000 liters of sewage daily must ensure zero discharge into main sewers and install adequate STPs.
