Mandya Villages Get Water Boost Amid Shortage

Summary

  • Officials inspected drinking water-scarcity-hit villages.
  • A plastic waste management unit was inaugurated.
  • Inadequate rainfall impacted groundwater and borewell yields.

Officials recently visited Krishnapura, Borapura, and Ramanahalli villages in Krishnarajapet taluk, addressing drinking water scarcity. MLA HT Manju and ZP CEO KR Nandini directed officials to ensure an uninterrupted water supply, reviewing current arrangements and protective measures.

The shortage is attributed to inadequate rainfall, which has lowered groundwater levels and reduced borewell yields. To counter this, private borewells are being hired to supplement the existing distribution network. This proactive approach aims to prevent any village from experiencing a drinking water crisis.

In a separate development on the same day, the district inaugurated its first Plastic Waste Management (PWM) unit at Shettahalli village. This facility, established under the Swachh Bharat Mission, is designed for systematic collection, segregation, processing, and baling of plastic waste for recycling.

MLA Manju highlighted the importance of effective waste management for environmental health and rural sanitation, encouraging waste segregation at the source and composting. The PWM unit is expected to generate revenue from recycled plastic, supporting ongoing waste management efforts.
