15 May
Summary
- STP upgrades due by August end amid Lokayukta scrutiny.
- ₹30 crore allocated for Guttalu and Chikkegowdanadoddi STPs.
- Several towns receive funds for drainage and wastewater management.

Mandya Deputy Commissioner Kumar has mandated the completion of sewage treatment plant (STP) upgrades in Guttalu and Chikkegowdanadoddi by the end of August. This action follows Lokayukta scrutiny regarding sewage pollution in local lakes. The Guttalu-Yattagadahalli STP has a 9.52 MLD capacity, and the Chikkegowdanadoddi plant handles 8.90 MLD. The state government is funding these crucial upgrades with ₹30 crore from the National Green Tribunal compensation fund.
Across Mandya district, various wastewater management projects are being expedited. In Maddur, a ₹1.15 crore decentralized wastewater treatment plant is planned for Chamanahalli Ashraya Layout, with tenders finalized. Nagamangala town has a ₹25-crore project for underground drainage network restoration, with tenders also completed. Bellur town requires immediate deployment of suction vehicles for its Faecal Sludge Treatment Plant deficiencies. Pandavapura's sewage treatment facility tender is complete.
Malavalli town has DPRs totaling ₹7.11 crore for underground drainage links and STP upgrades, awaiting KUIDFC approval. Srirangapatna has seen ₹18.12 crore awarded to a Bengaluru contractor for underground drainage "missing links" and wet well construction. These comprehensive efforts aim to significantly reduce sewage inflow into the district's water bodies.
