The Maharashtra environment and climate change department has entered into a significant partnership with Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages. This collaboration, formalized through a memorandum of understanding signed on Tuesday, focuses on the collection and recycling of used PET bottles throughout the state. The agreement was finalized during Mumbai Climate Week 2026.
This initiative, branded as the "Maha-rPET Campaign," seeks to establish organized systems for the collection of post-consumer PET waste. The partnership underscores a commitment to sustainable waste management practices and advancing circular economy goals. It represents the first formal MoU between Coca-Cola and an Indian state government for structured PET bottle collection and recycling.
The campaign will be implemented across key cities including Mumbai, Thane, Pune, and Nashik, with collection points planned at various public locations. Awareness drives will also be conducted to encourage responsible PET disposal. This public-private framework combines policy oversight with on-ground execution for effective waste management.
