Ludhiana Zoo Roars Back: Tigers Return After 17 Months!
3 Jun
Summary
- New tiger pair Badal and Bijli arrived from Nagpur.
- Safari reopened Tuesday after 17 months of closure.
- Entry fee set at ₹50 per person for tiger viewing.

The tiger safari at Ludhiana zoo has officially reopened to the public, following a 17-month hiatus. This much-awaited revival of the zoo's star attraction was made possible by the recent arrival of a new pair of Royal Bengal tigers, named Badal and Bijli. These sub-five-year-old tigers were transferred from the Balasaheb Thackeray Gorewada International Zoological Park in Nagpur.
After a month of acclimatization, Badal and Bijli were released into their enclosure on Tuesday, resuming the safari which had been closed since December 2024. Ludhiana zoo is now the second in Punjab to house tigers, with the Mahendra Chaudhary Zoological Park in Chhatbir being the other. The new pair brings the zoo's wild cat population to four, joining a pair of rescued leopards.
Amanpreet Singh, a zoo official, stated that the tigers were necessary to revive the safari, and the Nagpur zoo fulfilled their request. An entry fee of ₹50 has been set for visitors. Special arrangements, including coolers, have been made to help the tigers cope with the summer heat. The safari's reopening is a significant boost, as the zoo had been without a tiger since the death of its lone feline, Aman, in December 2024.
