Ludhiana Waste Project Tender Extended Sixth Time
24 May
Summary
- Ludhiana's waste management project tender extended for the sixth time.
- The ambitious ₹1408 crore project has failed to attract any bidders.
- Daily waste generation in Ludhiana significantly exceeds processing capacity.

The municipal corporation in Ludhiana has extended the tender for its Integrated Solid Waste Management project for the sixth time, struggling to attract bidders for the ambitious ₹1408 crore initiative. The original request for proposal, floated on March 21, saw its closing date repeatedly pushed back due to a lack of investor interest.
Despite reassurances, including the provision of 35 acres of litigation-free land and necessary transfer stations, contractors remain apprehensive. Reasons cited include the project's long commitment, high costs, and investor uncertainty regarding the continuation of the project by a new government in the near future.
This project is critically important for Ludhiana, which generates approximately 1100 metric tonnes of municipal solid waste daily. The current processing capacity at the Jamalpur plant is only 300 metric tonnes, resulting in a significant daily accumulation of garbage.
