- The project aims to minimize open dumping and environmental damage.

Ludhiana is launching an ambitious eight-year initiative to transform its waste management, highlighted by a ₹1,144 crore tender for comprehensive door-to-door waste collection. This project will delegate the responsibility of collecting waste directly from every household, shop, and commercial entity to a single private agency. This agency will deploy modern infrastructure, including 10 compactor sites and a fleet of 18 hook loaders, to ensure efficient and timely waste movement throughout the city.
The new system is designed to integrate seamlessly with existing processing facilities, such as the plant on Tajpur Road that processes 700 metric tonnes of waste daily. Officials emphasize that the primary goal is to strengthen the initial stages of waste management—collection, segregation, and transportation—thereby creating a more efficient chain from households to processing plants and reducing environmental damage from open dumping.
