10 Jan
Summary
- Dyeing industries in Ludhiana's Tajpur complex allegedly cause severe pollution.
- NGO petition cites hazardous waste dumping and lack of pollution control.
- NGT has issued notices, with next hearing on April 14.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has issued notices to the Central Pollution Control Board and others following a petition by the Public Action Committee (PAC). The NGO alleges large-scale air, water, and soil pollution stemming from dyeing industries in Ludhiana's Tajpur complex, highlighting severe risks to public health and the environment.
The petition details how dyeing units allegedly use pet coke and cow dung, releasing hazardous fly ash. This waste is reportedly dumped openly, buried illegally, or discharged into Buddha Nullah. Residents have reported suffering from respiratory issues and skin diseases, with pollution settling on homes and farmlands.
In response to these allegations, the NGT has taken cognisance and directed the respondents to file their replies by April 14. The PAC is seeking immediate closure of repeat offenders, environmental compensation, and installation of adequate air quality monitoring systems in Ludhiana's industrial zones.
